Portrait locations
in Christiansfeld

Three locations I use for wedding portraits in Christiansfeld. All within reach of the ceremony at Søstrehuset. The UNESCO settlement, the ochre lanes, and a beach on the Lillebælt coast.

Brødremenigheds Plads
& the old streets

At the ceremony venue

Søstrehuset sits on Brødremenigheds Plads — the symmetrical square at the heart of the Moravian settlement. The square, the yellow ochre buildings, and the quiet that pervades the entire settlement are already there the moment you step outside the ceremony.

The streets of the old town immediately surrounding the square extend the portrait setting naturally. Cobbled lanes, uniform yellow ochre facades, and an architectural scale that has remained unchanged since the town was founded in 1773. This is the most immediately distinctive portrait location in any city I work in — unlike anywhere else in Denmark.

Christinero
— Christina’s Peace

5 min drive

Christinero is a listed romantic garden 2 km southwest of Christiansfeld, created by Christina Friederica von Holstein in the late 18th century. Ponds with artesian fountains, a pavilion, a small chapel, mature trees, and walking paths. She is buried in the garden. Free access.

The atmosphere at Christinero is completely different from the formal symmetry of the old town. Soft, overgrown, and genuinely quiet. The ponds and the pavilion give portraits a romantic, unhurried quality. A five-minute drive from the ceremony.

Hejlsminde Strand

Hejlsminde
Strand

15 min drive

Hejlsminde Strand is on the Lillebælt coast, 10 km from Christiansfeld — a 15-minute drive. A wide beach with views across the strait toward Funen. The beach, the water, and the open sky give portraits a completely different character from the dense historical texture of the UNESCO settlement.

This works well as a third location for couples on longer packages who want a contrast between the enclosed stillness of Christiansfeld and the openness of the coast. Already used by wedding photographers here as a natural extension of the day.
