Elopement Photography
in Denmark
For couples who want their wedding day to feel quiet, close, and completely their own.
It can be simple.
And still feel like everything.
Eloping in Denmark has become one of the most popular choices for international couples, and for good reason.
The process is clear, the setting is genuinely beautiful, and there is no pressure to make the day bigger than it needs to be. You can arrive, get married, and leave with photos that feel honest and personal.
I’m Benjamin. I’m based in Aabenraa, in Southern Denmark, close to the German border. I photograph elopements and intimate ceremonies for international couples throughout the region. I’ve worked with couples from Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the UK, and beyond.
My approach is calm and documentary. I notice what is happening and I photograph it. I’ll guide you gently for a handful of portrait moments, and the rest of the time I stay quiet and let your day unfold naturally.
This page has everything you need to know about eloping in Denmark and what it looks like to work with me.
One of the easiest places
in Europe to get married
Couples choose Denmark for practical reasons. They stay for the way it feels.
Straightforward for international couples
EU citizens, including German nationals, can marry in Denmark with a clear and accessible registration process. Many couples complete the paperwork within a few weeks. There is no residency requirement and no long waiting period. The Danish Agency of Family Law handles applications, and town halls throughout Southern Denmark conduct ceremonies regularly.
A setting worth photographing
Southern Denmark has a quiet, understated beauty. Coastline, old harbour towns, open countryside, centuries-old town centres. Aabenraa, Sønderborg, Haderslev, and the surrounding landscape offer natural backdrops that feel unhurried and real. Not a backdrop. An actual place.
Intimate by design
Town hall weddings in Denmark are typically small. A registrar, the two of you, and whoever you choose to bring. That intimacy is the entire point. There is no performance. No obligation to entertain. Just the moment itself, and the people who matter most to you.
What it actually feels like to work with me
Most couples tell me they were nervous about being photographed. By the end of the day, they say they forgot I was there.
I arrive calm. I move quietly. I don’t rush you or hand you a list of poses to work through. During the ceremony I stay back and observe. After, I’ll guide you gently for portraits — something simple, like walking together or standing close — and then I step away and let it happen.
The photos that come from this tend to feel honest. Like you, not like a photoshoot.
Your gallery arrives within 4 weeks. Every image is carefully edited. Soft and natural. Nothing overdone.
I work with an intentionally limited calendar. This means every couple I work with gets my full attention — before, during, and after the day.

Where I photograph in Southern Denmark
I’m based in Aabenraa and photograph throughout South Jutland and the surrounding region. Most locations are within easy reach.
A small harbour city on the Aabenraa Fjord with a well-preserved old town centre. The town hall is here, along with quiet cobblestone streets, waterfront views, and green areas along the fjord. Close to the German border, easy to reach from both Germany and the wider region.
A coastal town on the island of Als with a historic castle, harbour, and dramatic bridge views. The mix of architecture, water, and open light makes Sønderborg one of the most photogenic locations in Southern Denmark for portrait work.
A quiet inland town with a Gothic cathedral, a long fjord, and an old town that feels genuinely unhurried. The cathedral square and surrounding streets offer beautiful natural framing for portraits without needing to travel far.
Open fields, old farmhouses, marshlands, quiet forest roads, and the North Sea coast are all within reach. If you have a specific place in mind — a spot you found, a view you want — get in touch and we can talk through what’s possible.
I’m happy to travel within Southern Denmark and South Jutland. For locations further away, a travel fee may apply. I’ll always be upfront about this before you book.
What couples most often ask
Straightforward answers to the questions I hear most. If something isn’t here, just ask.
