Planning a town hall wedding in Denmark
Getting married at a Danish town hall is simpler than most couples expect. The paperwork is handled online, the ceremony is short and warm, and you are never far from beautiful places for your portraits. Here is what to know before you choose your town.
The paperwork
You apply to Familieretshuset, the Danish Agency of Family Law, for approval to marry, with your passports and a few civil-status documents. For the exact list and current timelines, see my guide to getting married in Denmark.
Choosing your town
Each town hall has its own character, from Aabenraa and Sønderborg to the UNESCO town of Christiansfeld and Ribe, Denmark’s oldest. Open your town above for its guide and photo locations.
What it costs
There is no cost to marry at a Danish town hall. For photography, every package and any travel fee is on the pricing page.
On the day
Ceremonies are short and calm, usually ten to twenty minutes. Afterwards we have time for portraits at the locations near your venue.
