Three places I use regularly for wedding portraits in Aabenraa. All within minutes of the ceremony at Storegade 30. Each one gives the photographs a completely different atmosphere.

Store
Pottergade

8 min walk

Store Pottergade is one of the best-preserved streets in the old town. An eight-minute walk from the ceremony. Half-timbered buildings, cobblestones, and warm stone facades that have barely changed in two hundred years.

The street has a quiet, intimate scale that works in any light. Early morning light comes in low between the buildings. In the afternoon the stone takes on a warm tone. It photographs well year round without needing much direction from either of us.

For couples on shorter packages, this is typically where we spend most of the portrait time. For longer packages it is the natural first stop before we move to the water or the castle.

Sønder
strand

15 min walk 7 min drive

Sønderstrand is Aabenraa’s city beach, connected to the centre by Strandpromenaden. Fifteen minutes on foot, seven by car. A bathing jetty stretches out into the fjord and the views across the water are open in every direction.

The beach has a calm, unhurried quality. Sand, open sky, and the fjord light. The jetty in particular gives portraits a strong horizontal line and a sense of space that the old town streets cannot offer.

This works well as a second location after Store Pottergade — the contrast between the two settings gives the gallery real variety without needing to drive far.

Brundlund
Castle grounds

12 min walk 3 min drive

Brundlund Castle was founded in the 15th century and sits on a moated island at the southern edge of the city centre. The grounds are open to the public and free to use. Mature trees, a moat bridge, a sculpture garden, and the castle itself create a portrait setting with genuine depth and atmosphere.

The castle works particularly well for couples who want something with more visual weight. The combination of old stone, water reflections in the moat, and the open park gives you several distinct environments within a short walk of each other.

I use this location for couples on The Story or The Experience packages, when there is time to move between the old town and the grounds. Three minutes by car from Storegade 30.
