Portrait locations
in Esbjerg
Three locations I use for wedding portraits in Esbjerg. All within reach of the ceremony at Skolegade 33. Open water, a North Sea beach, and the option of Fanø island by ferry.
Esbjerg Dyrehaven

Dyrehaven
Esbjerg Dyrehaven is a green forest park between the city districts of Fovrfeld, Gjesing, and Spangsbjerg, on Gl. Vardevej — a 10-minute drive from Skolegade 33. Fallow deer roam freely through the park. Marked paths run through mature trees and open clearings.
The park has a soft, natural quality that contrasts completely with the open North Sea coast locations. Ancient oaks and beeches, green clearings, and the occasional deer give portraits a calm, unhurried character. Free access.
Hjerting Strand

Strand
Hjerting Strand is a wide beach on the North Sea coast, 5 km north of Esbjerg — a 10-minute drive from the ceremony. Sand, open water, and a vast sky. The beach has a calm, wide quality that gives portraits a completely different character from the port waterfront.
Hjerting works particularly well in the afternoon, when the light falls across the beach at a low angle and the sand takes on a warm tone. It photographs well in any season.
Dokken, Esbjerg

harbour — Dokken
Dokken is the harbour waterfront area in Esbjerg, a five-minute drive from Skolegade 33. Open water, wide North Sea sky, and the distinctive visual character of a working port. The combination of water, open sky, and industrial scale gives portraits a graphic, strong quality that is unlike anything inland.
The harbour is at its best on clear days when the light falls flat across the water. It works as a strong contrast to the softer green of Dyrehaven — a completely different visual register on the same afternoon.
