Three locations I use for wedding portraits in Esbjerg. All within reach of the ceremony at Skolegade 33. A deer park, a North Sea beach, and an open headland above the Wadden Sea.

Dyrehaven

10 min drive

Esbjerg Dyrehaven is a green forest park between the city districts of Fovrfeld, Gjesing, and Spangsbjerg, on Gl. Vardevej, about 10 minutes from Skolegade 33. Fallow deer roam freely through the park. Marked paths run through mature trees and open clearings.

The park has a soft, natural quality that contrasts completely with the open North Sea coast locations. Ancient oaks and beeches, green clearings, and the occasional deer give portraits a calm, unhurried character. Free access.

Nordlige
Hjerting Strand

15 min drive

The northern end of Hjerting Strand sits above Esbjerg on the Wadden Sea coast, about 15 minutes from Skolegade 33. Wide sand, open water, and a sky that fills the frame in every direction. The northern stretch is quieter than the main beach and gives more room to work without foot traffic.

It photographs well at any time of day, but the afternoon light from the west falls directly across the sand and gives portraits a warm, wide quality that is hard to find anywhere inland. No entry fee, ample parking.

Gulebjerg

25 min drive

Gulebjerg is a natural headland north of Hjerting, about 25 minutes from Skolegade 33. The site stands above the Wadden Sea with an unbroken view across the tidal flats toward Fanø. Open grass, low wind-shaped vegetation, and a wide coastal sky.

The elevated position means the sea and sky are in the frame from almost every angle. It feels completely different from the beach at Hjerting or the trees in Dyrehaven. It works particularly well on clear days when the Wadden Sea reflects the light.
