Town Hall Wedding
in Esbjerg

North Sea harbour city — open skies, wide water, and the option of Fanø island

Esbjerg is Denmark’s largest North Sea port city. Town hall weddings here have a completely different visual quality from the inland towns of Southern Jutland — the harbour, the open coast, and the option of a short ferry to Fanø island give the portraits a genuinely distinctive character. This guide covers everything worth knowing before your day.

The ceremony

The ceremony in
Esbjerg

Civil ceremonies in Esbjerg take place at Skolegade 33, 6700 Esbjerg — the courthouse building (Esbjerg Ting og Arresthus). This is where I photograph all Esbjerg weddings. Contact Esbjerg Municipality for ceremony days, times, and booking: www.esbjergkommune.dk. Note that Ribe is also within Esbjerg Municipality since the 2007 reform.

The defining quality of an Esbjerg wedding day is what comes after the ceremony. The harbour, the open coast north of the city, and the ferry to Fanø island give the portraits a completely different character from anywhere else in Southern Denmark.

Esbjerg offers portrait settings with a completely different character from the rest of Southern Denmark. The harbour, the coast, and Fanø island each give the day genuine visual range.

1

Esbjerg waterfront and Dokken

The waterfront area near Skolegade 33 gives you open water and wide sky. Strong and graphic with a distinctively North Sea character.

2

North Sea coastline (Hjerting Strand)

The beach north of the city is wide, open, and beautiful in almost any light. Sand, sky, and the North Sea — a genuinely unusual backdrop for a wedding day in Denmark.

3

Fanø island

A short ferry from the harbour. Sand dunes, beach, and the quiet island character of Fanø. An excellent option for couples on longer packages who want something extraordinary.

Practical information

Getting there and parking

Esbjerg city centre has good central parking. The harbour is a short drive. Check Fanø ferry times if you are planning to use the island.

The parking area I use when photographing at Skolegade 33. A short walk from the courthouse. This is the most practical option for a wedding day in Esbjerg.
