Three locations I use for wedding portraits in Ribe. All within walking distance of the ceremony in Ribe. A medieval cathedral, half-timbered streets, and the river marshland at the edge of the old town.

Ribe
Cathedral

5 min walk

Ribe Cathedral has stood at the centre of the old town since the 12th century. It is one of the finest cathedrals in Denmark. The cathedral square, the approach from the old town, and the stone walls give portraits a depth and historical weight that is rare in any country.

The scale of the cathedral against the small scale of the streets around it creates a natural tension that photographs beautifully. Early morning and late afternoon light falls across the stone at its best. A five-minute walk from the ceremony location.

Location 02

Sønderportsgade

Sønder
portsgade

5 min walk

Sønderportsgade is one of Ribe’s finest streets for half-timbered buildings, running south from the old town. It includes Hans Tausen’s house and several houses from the early 16th century, including a notable group on the corner of Sønderportsgade and Puggaardsgade.

The scale of the street, its mix of red and timber-framed facades, and the cobblestones give it a richer visual texture than the more open areas of the old town. A five-minute walk from the ceremony. Consistently one of the strongest portrait streets in Ribe.

Ribe River
& Skibbroen

8 min walk

Skibbroen is the old harbour quay where the Ribe River flows through the town — an eight-minute walk from the cathedral. A cobblestoned riverside, an old hand-driven crane, and sailing boats moored at the quay. The river itself winds through the old town and reflects the surrounding historic buildings.

The harbour has a genuine quality of age — not styled or restored, but simply preserved. The combination of the water, the old quay, and the wooden crane gives portraits a timeless quality. For longer packages, this is a natural third setting after the cathedral and Sønderportsgade.
