Tønder
old town streets
The ceremony at Jomfrustien 8 is in the heart of the old town. You step outside and the streets are already there. Preserved merchant facades, cobblestones, and a density of historical character that is unlike anywhere else in Southern Jutland.
These streets work in any light and any season. The narrow passages create soft, even light even in bright sun. The warm stone of the old facades photographs naturally without any need to direct much. For couples on shorter packages, this is often where we spend the portrait session.
Schackenborg
Castle
Schackenborg Castle is 5 km from the town centre, a 10-minute drive from Jomfrustien 8. From 1993 until 2014, it was the private residence of Prince Joachim. The castle grounds and the surrounding landscape give portraits a quietly stately character. Open, formal, and unlike the old town streets.
The grounds include the castle building, mature trees, and the flat marshland landscape of the area. The contrast between the intimacy of the town hall ceremony and the open scale of the castle grounds gives the portraits real variety.
Trøjborg
Castle Ruin
Trøjborg Castle Ruin is 12 km north of Tønder near the village of Visby, a 15-minute drive from the ceremony. Built in the 1300s and once owned by Queen Margrethe I of Denmark, the ruin is surrounded by water-filled moats on all four sides. A drawbridge crosses into the site. Free access. Parking is roughly 500 m from the ruin.
The combination of the moat, the remaining south wall, and the trees that have grown up around it give the site a genuinely atmospheric quality. It photographs as something ancient and unhurried. For couples wanting something different from the town centre, this is one of the most distinctive portrait locations in Southern Jutland.
