Wedding in Gråsten
at Det Gamle Rådhus
The former council chamber, views of the palace lake, and the royal town on the doorstep
Weddings in Gråsten take place at Det Gamle Rådhus on Torvet — the former town hall, now a hotel, with its original council chamber intact. The chamber looks out over Gråsten Palace Lake and has a genuine historic quality that few ceremony rooms can match. This guide covers everything worth knowing before your day.

Det Gamle Rådhus
The ceremony takes place in the former council chamber on the first floor of Det Gamle Rådhus, Torvet 8, 6300 Gråsten. The room overlooks Gråsten Palace Lake. The ceremony is administered by Sønderborg Municipality. Weddings here are on Fridays only between 8:30 and 14:00.
The council chamber at Det Gamle Rådhus has a warmth and history that very few ceremony rooms have. The view of the palace lake from the window behind you during the ceremony makes for photographs that cannot be replicated anywhere else in Southern Denmark.

Palace lake portraits — 10 to 15 minutes
The palace lake is directly outside. The combination of the water, the trees, and the historic building gives you strong early portraits before moving on.
Gråsten Palace gardens — 30 to 60 minutes
A 10-minute walk from Torvet. The palace gardens are open to the public when the Royal Family is not in residence and are extraordinary for portraits.
The best portrait spots
near Gråsten
Gråsten has a genuinely exceptional range of portrait settings within easy reach. The palace, the lake, and the old town each give the day a completely different atmosphere.
Gråsten Palace and gardens
The Danish Royal Family’s summer residence is a 10-minute walk from Torvet. The gardens are open to the public when the Royal Family is not in residence. Manicured paths, open lawns, and the palace itself create a portrait setting unlike anywhere else in Southern Denmark.
Gråsten Palace Lake
Directly outside Det Gamle Rådhus. The water, the surrounding trees, and the reflections give you calm, beautiful portrait settings immediately after the ceremony without needing to travel anywhere.
Gråsten harbour and old town
Gråsten has a small harbour and well-preserved old town streets a short walk from the ceremony venue. Warm stone, quiet character, and a human scale that photographs naturally.
