Portrait locations
in Kolding
Three locations I use for wedding portraits in Kolding. All within easy reach of the ceremony at Akseltorv. A striking fountain street, a medieval castle, and the fjord.
Jernbanegade, Kolding

gade
Jernbanegade is a pedestrianised street a three-minute walk from Akseltorv. A central fountain runs along the length of the street, flanked by tall stone-mosaic pillars on both sides. It is an unusually beautiful street and one of the most visually distinctive portrait settings in any of the cities I work in.
The pillars create a natural repeating frame, and the light changes noticeably as you move between the pillars and the open fountain area. This is typically the first stop after the ceremony — close, distinctive, and requiring almost no travel.
Koldinghus Castle

Castle
Koldinghus is a medieval royal castle a short walk from Akseltorv. Founded in the 13th century, it sits at the edge of a lake with stone walls, open grounds, and a ruin hall that is one of the most architecturally striking restoration projects in Denmark.
The castle grounds give portraits strong architectural character — old stone, the castle lake, and the scale of the building. It photographs well at any time of day. For couples with time, the walk from Jernbanegade to the castle adds a natural progression to the portrait session.
Slotssøen, Kolding

Castle Lake
Slotssøen — the castle lake — sits directly beside Koldinghus. The lake gives portraits a calm horizontal line against the castle walls. Reflections, open water, and the weight of the medieval castle immediately above all combine in a single frame.
Slotssøen is a natural extension of the Koldinghus portrait session. The castle grounds flow directly to the lake edge without needing to drive anywhere. The light on the lake is particularly good in the afternoon.
