Three minutes on foot from Akseltorv. A pedestrianised street with a fountain running its length, flanked by tall stone-mosaic pillars that carry a canopy of green overhead. The light changes as you move between the pillars and the open fountain, and it is where I usually start after the ceremony.
Koldinghus Castle
Eight minutes on foot. A medieval royal castle at the edge of the lake, with stone walls, open grounds, and a ruin hall behind them. The scale of the building gives portraits strong architectural character in any season or light.
Slotssøen · the castle lake
The lake sits directly beside Koldinghus, so the castle grounds flow to the water without a drive. Willows lean over the bank, open water sits behind, and the light on the lake is at its best in the afternoon.
Parking near Akseltorv
Pakhustorvet 30 is the best place to leave the car, with Slotssøen as a backup. The Kolding Parkering app (Android and iOS) gives live availability across the central car parks.
