Portrait locations
in Haderslev
Three locations I use for wedding portraits in Haderslev. All within easy reach of the ceremony at Christian X’s Vej. A cathedral, a park lake, and old town lanes that have barely changed in centuries.
Haderslev
Damparken
Damparken is the name locals use for the park and lake area that runs through the heart of Haderslev. The lake, the water’s edge, and the open parkland give portraits a calm horizontal atmosphere that is a strong contrast to the weight of the cathedral nearby.
The park works in any season. In summer the light comes across the water in the afternoon. In winter the bare trees and the still lake have their own kind of photographic quality. A 15-minute walk from Christian X’s Vej, or 5 minutes by car.
Haderslev
Cathedral
Haderslev Cathedral is one of the finest medieval cathedrals in Denmark. The cathedral square, the stone walls, and the approach lanes all photograph with a depth and historical weight that is genuinely rare in Southern Jutland.
The cathedral itself and the square in front of it give different kinds of portraits. The scale of the building, the detail of the stone, and the light that falls across the facade at different times of day. A 12-minute walk from Christian X’s Vej.
Haderslev
Dyrehaven
Haderslev Dyrehaven is a 100-hectare deer park on the western shore of Haderslev Dam at Nørskovgård. Around 200 fallow deer and 20 red deer roam freely. Marked walking paths, open glades, and a viewpoint (Dronningens Udsigt) overlooking the lake below.
The park gives portraits a soft, natural character that is completely different from the cathedral and Damparken. Mature trees, open clearings, and the occasional deer in the frame. A 10-minute drive from the ceremony venue. Free access.
