A preserved old town hall overlooking Gråsten Palace Lake. One of the most atmospheric ceremony settings in Southern Denmark. Gråsten Palace and its grounds are a short walk away for portraits. The Royal Family’s summer residence, open to the public when royals are not in residence.

Nørherredhus Hotel Nordborg, Als

A hotel venue on the island of Als with immediate grounds for portraits after the ceremony. Nordborg Castle, founded around 1150, is a short drive and one of the most distinctive portrait settings in the region. The Als coastline is close by for longer packages.

All ceremonies in Sønderborg Municipality are on Fridays only, 8:30 to 14:00. Document presentation is the Thursday before at Holger Drachmanns Plads 5, Sønderborg. Once you have your date confirmed with the municipality, I can tell you exactly which venue you will be at.

Nordborg Castle

Founded around 1150, one of the oldest castles on Als. Castle grounds and Nordborg Lake offer calm water reflections and a quiet, weighty atmosphere. Open daily, a short drive from Nørherredhus Hotel.

Als Coastline

Open sand, wide water, and the distinctive island atmosphere of Als. Købingsmark Strand is the closest beach to the Nordborg venue. Best suited to longer packages where there is time to travel after the ceremony.

It depends on the calendar week of your Friday. Odd weeks are at Det Gamle Rådhus in Gråsten. Even weeks are at Nørherredhus Hotel in Nordborg. The municipality confirms this when you book your date with them. Once you have your date, I can tell you which venue it will be and what portrait options work best from there.

Do we need to bring witnesses?

For Friday ceremonies in Sønderborg Municipality, witnesses are provided. You do not need to arrange your own. Check with the municipality when booking to confirm this for your specific date, as policies can change.

Is there a travel fee for Sønderborg?
