I am the wedding photographer couples book when they are getting married at Nørherredhus Hotel, Als. The hotel is one of two venues used by Sønderborg Municipality for international wedding ceremonies — and it is where I spend a significant part of my year. Unlike a traditional town hall, the hotel setting gives the day a quieter, more private feel. You arrive, hold the ceremony, and step outside directly into the hotel grounds.

Als is an island in the south of Denmark, connected to the mainland by bridge. It has a different pace and a different kind of light. Water is close on most sides. The landscape of Als photographs differently from anywhere on the mainland, and Nordborg Castle and the coastline are both reachable within a short drive from the hotel.

The Day

The ceremony at Nørherredhus Hotel

Ceremonies at Nørherredhus take place on Fridays, with slots between 8:30 and 14:00. The ceremony itself is short — typically around 15 to 20 minutes. A small group. A calm room. No performance required from you.

I arrive before you do. I document the arrival, the ceremony, and everything in between without directing or interrupting. The photographs come from real moments, not arranged ones. After the ceremony, we move outside at whatever pace feels right.

The hotel grounds give you a portrait setting immediately after. Nordborg Castle and the Als coastline are both close by for couples who want more than one location. Depending on the package, we can stay in one place or cover all three.

Nørherredhus Hotel Grounds

The immediate surroundings of the hotel. You step outside and the portraits begin, with no travel time between ceremony and session. Natural setting, calm atmosphere. Works well for shorter packages where time is a factor.

Nordborg Castle and Lake

Nordborg Slot sits on the south shore of Nordborg Lake, a short drive from the hotel. The castle was founded around 1150 and is one of the oldest on Als. Stone walls, open water, and strong reflections. The grounds are open daily from 10:00 to 17:00 and photograph with real depth in any season.

Købingsmark Strand

The Als coastline at Købingsmark. Sand, open sky, and the wide feeling that only comes from an island. A complete contrast to the castle and the hotel. Best suited to longer packages where there is time to reach the coast and slow down.
